Prayer. The best prayer I’ve ever heard was ten powerful words. Today’s pick of the day.

It was a glorious conference. Wonderful speakers, informative classes, and great fellowship. As it was coming to a close, one of our pastors stood and approached the microphone to offer the final prayer.

As he slowly walked he confidently smiled. My expectation was the prayer of all prayers. The big bang of an explosive ending. Well crafted words from a man with great pastoral experience and years of sermons to his credit. This was going to be good.

Yet 10 words later, he stepped down. It was over. As I sat stunned I realized this was a prayer I would never forget. Not only was it simple, but it was from a heart that completely Trusted His Father.

Pausing frequently, speaking slowly, he said.  “Lord…… your will…. nothing more… nothing less….. nothing else. Amen.”  Wow. It wasn’t what he said, but how he said it. It was enough.

Over the years I’ve repeated that prayer many times. More often than not, I add my own selfish agenda.  “But Lord don’t….. OK God don’t forget…… Jesus please do………Lord please don’t…..” However, there are times when I remember that prayer. Yes, because I can remember it. But more because it was from a heart of Trust completely comfortable with who God is.

Prayers? They come in all shapes and sizes. The Bible says to pray without ceasing and on all occasions. Sometimes they are just meant to be shortened by a heart of faith unafraid to let God have his way and do something great with your life. Today’s pick of the day.
